About

A small production lab, run by people who have waited for proteins themselves.

Genotic Proteins makes research-grade proteins, enzymes and recombinant antibodies at the scale where most science actually happens — milligrams, not kilograms — from a lab inside the European Union.

Why this service exists

Most protein production is priced and organised around large programmes. That leaves a gap: the group who needs thirty milligrams of one protein, next month, to find out whether an idea is worth pursuing. Those orders are too small to interest a CDMO and too disruptive to run in-house without stopping something else.

That gap has grown wider as computational design has got faster. A team can now generate more credible candidates in a week than their own bench can express in a quarter. When the queue at the bench sets the pace of a programme, the bottleneck has moved — and it is no longer where anyone budgeted for it.

We built this around that specific problem: a fast, honest first pass on a single target, with the data you need to decide whether to keep going.

What we are, plainly

A small-scale production lab. E. coli up to 10 L and transient mammalian expression in CHO and HEK293, with affinity and specificity analytics alongside. Everything we ship is research-grade and labelled for research use only.

We are part of Genotic, and the protein work described on this site is what this team does. We are not a marketplace reselling someone else's capacity, and we are not a CDMO — if your project has outgrown research quantities, we will tell you and point you at people who do that properly.

What we do not do

  • Insect cell / baculovirus expression
  • Yeast (Pichia, S. cerevisiae) expression
  • GMP or clinical-grade material
  • Supply for diagnostic or therapeutic use
  • Antibody discovery — no immunisation, no hybridoma work. We express sequences you already have.
  • Freedom-to-operate assessment on sequences you send us.

This list is deliberately visible rather than buried. Knowing where a supplier stops is more useful than a long list of things they claim to be good at.

How we work

Four commitments, all of which are checkable.

We tell you when the answer is no

If your target is a poor fit for what we run, you will hear it in the quote. Turning down an order costs us less than running one we expect to fail, and it costs you a great deal less. A supplier who says yes to everything is telling you something about how the work will go.

Problems surface early or not at all

The small-scale expression test in the middle of every project exists so that bad news arrives in week one, when changing conditions or the construct is cheap, rather than in week three when it is not. You get a note at that point whether the news is good or bad.

The data ships with the protein

Gel, concentration, size-exclusion profile and a batch record, in the same package as the material. Basic characterisation is not an upgrade we sell back to you — without it we have not finished the job.

The price is fixed before we start

You get a number, not a range that drifts. It moves only if you change the brief, and then we tell you before doing the work rather than on the invoice.

Research use only

An important limit on everything here.

All material we supply is for research use only. It is not manufactured under GMP, it is not intended for administration to humans or animals, and it is not supplied as a component of a diagnostic device or a therapeutic product.

You are welcome to use our material to explore, prototype and generate data. If your project reaches the point of needing regulated supply, that requires a different quality system than the one behind this service — and we would rather say so now than let you discover it later.
